Read this before it gets BANNED
So recently in India a lot of stuff is getting banned. First the beef, then maggi and now porn sites. The first two were rightly done considering that cows were being slaughtered on a large scale and some religions found it disturbing. The next maggi noodles was alright as well as the product contained a large amount of lead. These reasons for the ban are totally acceptable. However the ban on porn sites is a bit confusing.
The ban was initiated by SC and not the parliament. If they banned it what would they watch in the house then. The reason behind this was that some person whose I donot wish to Google or take it here on this blog argued that watching porn makes men more violent and leads to rapes. I argue that its kinda other way round in some cases. Okay hardcore and senseless stuff does bring about such changes, but then not all variants lead to rapes. What about lesbian and other same sex porn videos, how do they affect it ? I'd rather believe that they discourage the person watching them.
By banning all porn and not just some part of it can be also seen as that all medicines should be banned just because some of them are lethal if not taken in proper doses. I'm not implying that porn is a medicine (though it has shown to act like one in some cases) but the analogy is similar. Would you born all the vehicles on the road just because some vehicles in the wrong hands have been known to kill people ? This is not the way decisions are made right. It all points to one thing that it is upon the person on how he/she visualises stuff.
The other question that arises that how would banning porn lead to less rapes. Some may argue that, now instead of just jerking off and satisfying oneself, the person would rather like to do the real stuff now; leading to more rapes and increased visits to brothels and the rest. I wouldn't like to delve more into this as it would take the article to totally different direction. It may be true that rapists have agreed to watch porn before they raped the person. But then does it imply that if I watch porn then I'm a rapist or a potential rapist. Definately not. In fact if we were to use the above argument then a lot of people using internet in India would be given a rapist tag.
So banning porn is not an option to curb rapes, that much most of us agree. Now that its been three days now since porn sites were banned in India. Did we see any fall in the number of rape cases ? An apt action to prevent them would be spreading awareness and education among people. People which show tendencies of a rapist should be counselled. A majority of these people don't even know that what they do is a serious offence. The importance of women should be taught to people. And if still the person shows bad signs then and then only should he undergo serious punishment or treatments. This happens in rare cases and studies and history have shown that counselling helps greatly in this process.
These days the media is full of cheap, lewd and filthy content. Agree to it that if it is in moderation people enjoy it. But then if it is just too much like the way it is these days it looks totally bad. The youth are watching this piece of shit. And that too sometimes leads to dirty thoughts in people's mind. Some amount of profanity is okay but then these days it is just too much. Recently AIB made a video about every party song ever made and the message they delivered is amazing. Such things that show the bad side of stuff in a hilarious manner or in a manner that everyone enjoys should be portrayed more often. It doesn't put the people doing it in a bad light but at the same time delivers the message in a much better less boring fashion.
Lastly, I would like to leave a message for the guy who filed the PIL which lead to the ban on the porn sites (if he ever reads it); I know you did what you did thinking that something good would happened, but this has obviously back fired and you totally know that. So thank you for your efforts, and better come up with a better more feasible and less annoying idea. Thank You.
